Chapter 9

Due April 1st.

Chapter 9-Select one of the following questions to respond to on the blog.

1.Discuss the importance of content reading for struggling learners.

2. What kind of reading instruction might good readers need?

3. Complete survey monkey for this book study.

Chapter 8

Due April 1st.

Chapter 8-From pages104-105, pick one strategy to share with your students. Post on the blog which strategy you chose, an example of how you implemented the strategy and what the student response was.

Chapter 7

Due April 1st:

Chapter 7-Post the pro’s and con’s of leading an inquiry based classroom. If you are not familiar with literature or Socratic circles, find out what they provide to readers. Post an example of how you would teach and scaffold questioning for struggling students?

Chapter 6

Due March 18th:

Chapter 6-Some of our students are very good accessing background knowledge and others either lack experience or language skills in the case of second language learners. Post 3-4 ways to help struggling students connect their life experiences and what they are learning in all of their classes. Respond to one post. Also address ways we can help students dive a little deeper using connections.

Chapter 5

Due March 18th

Page 61 #2-Provide a list of fix-up strategies to your students or post the strategies in your classroom. Ask the student(s) to try at least one. Report to the group via the blog which strategy was most often chosen by your students.

Chapter 4

Due March 4th:

Chapter 4 gives three strategies to help readers when they do not comprehend the text. Select one of the strategies and use in a lesson. Blog which strategy you selected and your student(s) response to using the strategy.

Chapter 3

Due March 4th

Chapter 3-Select one of the teaching strategies introduced in this section to model for students. Teach one or more students to use the strategy. Blog your feedback on the success of the strategy you selected.
